BOLD Architecture was engaged to present a concept for a new cafe on Victoria Street, Mackay in late 2009. The site was an existing building formerly known as ‘Comet Cars’. Inspiration was drawn from a historic photograph which depicted a large graphic of a spitfire aircraft plastered on the side of the building. The interior was formed around the idea that an areoplane had parked its nose inside the building and was stripped back to it’s raw skeleton. Menu boards would be in the shape of cockpit dials and it was even suggested that staff would wear flight attendant-esque uniforms.
